If you're searching for a peaceful escape in Seoul that blends Korean tradition, panoramic views, and calming tea time, look no further than Dongbaekheon, a hidden gem nestled inside Samcheonggak in Seongbuk-dong.

From its historic hanok architecture to beautifully curated gardens and traditional tea offerings, this place offers a rare opportunity to slow down and embrace Korean culture—without leaving the city.

1.  Why Visit Dongbaekheon?

Located on the slopes of Bugaksan (북악산), Dongbaekheon is a traditional teahouse where you can sip jujube tea, omija tea, or even enjoy traditional Korean sweets (다과) in an elegant hanok setting. It’s especially recommended if:

  • You want a quiet, photogenic spot away from busy tourist traps
  • You’re interested in Korean royal court cuisine, tea culture, and architecture
  • You’re planning a special moment: date, healing solo trip, or even a wedding proposal

📷 Fun fact: Just days before my visit, the President’s son held his wedding in the same venue!

2. What’s It Like Inside?

You’ll be greeted by a serene courtyard, pine trees swaying in the breeze, and traditional buildings steeped in Korean history. I joined a guided tour by a gungjung-eumsik (royal cuisine) expert, and we were led through buildings once used for state banquets. Then we settled at Dongbaekheon for tea.

Tea Set Price:
✔ Jujube Tea + Traditional sweets: 12,000 KRW
✔ Tip: Sit by the window for a full view of the garden and tiled roofs
